It was Christmas Eve. The landscape was covered in glittering snow. All the houses in the small village were decorated beautifully.
In the center of the village stood a neat little house. A family lived there whose favorite holiday was Christmas. The fire crackled in the fireplace, and under the Christmas tree, there were lots of gifts waiting to be unwrapped by their owners.
A cheerful laugh echoed from behind a soft velvet chair. It was none other than the voice of Peti, the youngest member of the family.
Peti’s mother took out an old fairy tale book. This was no ordinary book, her grandmother had told her mother stories from it when she was as small as Peti. Mother began to tell the story:
“Once upon a time, there was a little baby Jesus, who was born among the shepherds and lambs in a manger in Bethlehem. He was the son of God and the Virgin Mary. We celebrate his birthday on Christmas. Jesus brought us the holiday of peace and love.”
Peti listened to the story in amazement and imagined himself standing next to the baby Jesus. Meanwhile, he snuggled up to his mother and father, and then suddenly spoke out:
“I want to enjoy Christmas like baby Jesus!”
His father smiled and replied:
“Then always remember that Christmas is a holiday of joy and love! Try to make others happy during the holiday. If you do, then you can really enjoy Christmas like Jesus.”
Peti nodded and understood that he could do something for the happiness of others. Then the whole family gathered around the Christmas tree, and the warm atmosphere of the holiday spread throughout the house. Everyone’s hearts were filled with happiness, because they knew that Christmas is about love and joy.
